The former Director General of Police (DGP) R. Sreelekha has submitted a plea before the Kerala High Court seeking to quash a case registered against her earlier this month under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly revealing the identity of minor rape survivors through her YouTube channel. Ms. Sreelekha is a councillor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation now. The case had been filed under provisions of the POCSO Act and Section 72 (that prohibits the printing or publishing of any matter that reveals the identity of a victim of sexual offences) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the episode in question related to the Kiliroor and Kaviyoor sexual assault cases and allegedly disclosed details that could lead to the identification of the survivors. The FIR also says that the names of their parents were also revealed.
