The district records day temperatures from 35 degrees Celsius to 42 degrees Celsius between March and May every year. A majority of people find a way to avoid possible dehydration by consuming watermelon and juice made from different fruits and sugarcane. The day’s maximum temperature from March 16 to 22 was recorded between 30 degrees Celsius and 34.5 degrees Celsius and the heat wave continues, despite light showers a couple of days ago making the weather conditions cooler. Considering the high temperature during the day, private organizations have established temporary roadside charitable houses at different places in the city to quench the thirst of the people. Sri Basavashree Noukarara Pattina Sahakara Sangha and Paropakara Balaga Seva Samsthe, private organizations, have established such charitable houses and kept mud pots with taps to provide potable drinking water for the general public. The city has developed and thousands of people come here for their routine administrative work. :These charitable houses that provide drinking water have become more helpful,” social activist Sharanu Gadduge said. This is only the beginning, as a larger number of such charitable houses will come up in the next couple days to ensure potable drinking water for the general public. “It may put financial burden on everyone to buy mineral water, cold drinks and juice whenever they feel thirsty. But drinking water facilities provided by private organisations through such charitable houses is highly appreciable,” city-based businessman Sangamesh said. He added that he is also planning to establish such a house near his grocery shop near Gandhi Chowk in the old city to enable customers to have enough water.
