In a reallotment of seats for the April 9 Assembly elections, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has given two of its seats to new alliance partner, the Neyam Makkal Kazhagam (NMK) formed by Independent legislator G. Nehru.

A press note from TVK general secretary N. Anand said this follows the party founder president Vijay giving the nod to Mr. Nehru’s request for fighting the April 9 elections as part of the TVK alliance. Mr. Nehru had launched his regional party in October, 2025 pledging to safeguard the rights of the people and to fight for securing Statehood.

Subsequently, the TVK, which had only the other day announced candidates for all 30 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory, reallocated Orleanpet and Thattanchavady to the NMK.

Interestingly, though Mr. Nehru, a sitting MLA of the Orleanpet constituency, was among the Independents who had lent support to the AINRC-BJP government under Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, he had not shied away from attacking the NDA and stirring controversies. He once gatecrashed a State-event to protest “tardy progress” of Smart City projects and on another occasion created a flutter by wheeling a trader injured in an attack by miscreants on a stretcher to the premises of the Raj Nivas to denounce the assault and the denial of proper medical care.
