Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has sought the Centre’s intervention for securing the early release of 11 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry who were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy recently. In a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the Sri Lankan Navy has captured 10 fishermen from Karaikal region of the Union Territory and one from Sirkazhi in Tamil Nadu while they were fishing in their mechanised boat near Kodiyakarai on January 1. The Chief Minister has urged the External Affairs Minister to take appropriate steps on priority basis with the Sri Lankan government for securing the release of captured fishermen and their boat.
