A brief session of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly will be held on Thursday (February 12, 2026) for the government to present a Vote on Account for 2026-27.

The ruling AINRC-BJP has decided to present an interim Budget citing the impending Assembly elections in the Union Territory.

When the Assembly convenes around 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy will present the Vote on Account. In the past, whenever the Vote on Account route had been taken, the government had sought the Assembly nod for the sanction of expenditure for the first four to five months of the financial year. The presentation of a full Budget will be left to a new government after the elections.

Chief Minister and Ministers will also present Bills for supplementary demand for grants for the current financial year after the presentation of the Vote on Account.

Though the session is going to be short, Opposition DMK and Congress will use the opportunity to pin down the government on certain issues, including the ongoing strike by 292 contract teachers demanding the regularisation of their services. The ruling party members said they are ready with statistics to counter the Opposition if they raise questions about the performance of the government.
