Liquor outlets located within 5 km of the Puducherry border in Villupuram district will remain closed from April 7 to April 9, 2026 in view of the Puducherry Assembly election scheduled on April 9. District Election Officer and Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman said the restriction has been imposed under Section 135(C) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. All government liquor retail outlets and bars attached to them, situated within the 5-km radius of the Puducherry border in Vanur and Marakkanam blocks in Villupuram district, will remain closed. The order also applies to licence holders under FL3 category. The closure will come into effect from 10 a.m. on April 7, 2026 and continue till midnight on April 9, 2026, the day of polling.
