In the 2021 Puducherry Assembly elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a majority, winning 16 of 30 constituencies. The All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) emerged as the single-largest party with 10 seats, while its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won 6 seats. The other seats went to DMK (6), Independents (6), and Congress (2).

AINRC founder N. Rangasamy was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 7, 2021. He formed a coalition government with the BJP.

Here is the current Council of Ministers in Puducherry.

N. Rangasamy, Chief Minister

N. Rangasamy had contested in two seats but won only his traditional constituency of Thattanchavady, defeating CPI nominee K. Sethu Selvam by 5,456 votes. In Yanam, he lost to Independent Gollapalli Srinivas Ashok by a margin of 2,183 votes.

Mr. Rangasamy holds the portfolio of Confidential and Cabinet Department, Cooperation, Revenue and Excise, Planning and Finance, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, General Administration, Health and Family Welfare, Hindu Religious Institutions, Waqf Board, Local Administration, Port, Science, Technology and Environment, Town and Country Planning, Information and Publicity, and other subjects that are not allocated to any other ministers.

A. Namassivayam

A. Namassivayam, who belongs to the BJP, is the Home Minister. He won from the Mannadipet constituency, defeating the DMK’s A. Krishnan by 2,750 votes. A former Minister and second-in-command in the erstwhile Congress ministry headed by Mr. Narayanasamy, Mr. Namassivayam had quit the Congress and joined BJP in 2021 ahead of the elections.

He handles Home, Electricity, Industries and Commerce, Education, including Collegiate Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Sainik Welfare.

K. Lakshminarayanan

A former Congress legislator who joined the AINRC, K. Lakshminarayanan retained the Raj Bhavan constituency by defeating DMK’s S.P. Sivakumar by 3,752 votes.

He currently holds the following portfolios: Public Works, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare, Law, Information Technology, and Stationery and Printing.

C. Djeacoumar

AINRC nominee from Mangalam constituency C. Djeacoumar defeated his DMK rival S.V. Sugumaran by a margin of 2,751 votes. He is the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare, Forest and Wildlife, Social Welfare, Backward Class Welfare, and Women and Child Development.

P.R.N. Thirumurugan

P.R.N. Thirumurugan of the AINRC, who contested from Karaikal North, defeated former PCC chief A.V. Subramanian by a slender margin of 135 votes. He is the Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Housing, Art and Culture, and Economics and Statistics.

A. John Kumar

A. John Kumar, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP in 2021, defeated former Minister MOHF Shahjahan (Congress) by a margin of 7,229 votes from Kamaraj Nagar constituency. He was appointed to the Council of Ministers in 2025, in place of A.K. Sai J. Saravanan Kumar, who quit the Cabinet following a direction from the BJP high command.
