The BJP will field M. Arulmurugan from Karaikal South in the April 9, 2026 elections to the Puducherry Assembly. The decision was made by the BJP’s Central Election Committee, said Arun Singh, the party’s national general secretary, in a press release. The BJP had earlier released a first list of nine candidates that included Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Speaker R. Selvam, PML Kalyanasundaram, MLA and V.P. Ramalingam, State president. The BJP is contesting in 10 seats while the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) contests in 16 seats with the AIADMK and Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi (LJK) allotted two seats each.
