Flautist Pt. Pravin Godkhindi will be honoured with the ‘Krishna Hangal National Award’, instituted in memory of Hindustani vocalist Vidushi Krishna Hangal in an award ceremony to be held at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubballi on January 14. Addressing the presspersons in Hubballi on Saturday, conveners of the event Vinay Nayak and vocalist Vaishnavi Hangal said that the award ceremony would begin at 5.15 p.m. on January 14 and would be followed by a music concert by Pt. Pravin Godkhindi. Gangubai Hangal Sangeet Vidyalaya and the Symphony Institute of Music jointly organise the event. The award comes with a cash prize of ₹50,000, a citation, and a memento, which will be presented by the renowned Hindustani vocalist and Padma Shri awardee, Pandit M. Venkatesh Kumar. Mr. Vinay Nayak said that ‘Krishna Hangal National Award’ was being presented every year to a distinguished artist in recognition of significant contributions towards Indian classical music s and this year, Pt. Godkhindi had been chosen for the honour. Vaishnavi Hangal said that the programme would commence with a vocal concert by Komal Nadiger, followed by the award presentation. Subsequently Pt. Pravin Godkhiindi would perform and he would be accompanied by Hemant Joshi and Basavaraj Hiremath on tabla and Chidambaram Joshi on harmonium. Former Assistant Commissioner of the Greater Mumbai Corporation Uday Kumar Shirurkar will be the chief guest and noted obstetrician and fine arts patron Dr Saubhagya Kulkarni will be the guest of honour.
