A group of people staged a demonstration near Babu Jagjivan Ram circle in Mysuru on Sunday (April 5) demanding internal reservation for Scheduled Castes.

The demonstrators, who were carrying placards, criticised Minister for Social Welfare H.C. Mahadevappa and shouted slogans against the State government for its failure to implement internal reservation for Scheduled Castes in the State.

The protesters said the Congress government does not have the moral right to celebrate the birth anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram, who ensured social justice to Scheduled Castes during his tenure.

When D. Thimmaiah, MLC, who was also present on the occasion, assured the protestors that the government is committed to implementing the internal reservation, the protestors urged him to resign and join the movement demanding implementation of the internal reservation.

The protestors later gheraoed Harish Gowda, Chamaraja MLA, and informed him that the Madiga community in the constituency had cast their votes in his favour in the last elections, but the MLA had not spoken in favour of the community.

“Do you only want votes from the community, but do not want to ensure them social justice?” a protester questioned Mr. Gowda before urging him to raise voice on their behalf in the Legislative Assembly.
