Congress Member of Parliament Sudha Ramakrishnan on Friday dismissed allegations that women opposition members had intended to protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an “unprecedented manner” in the Lok Sabha. She charged Mr. Modi of using these allegations as a pretext to avoid answering questions related to India’s national security.

Ms. Sudha told The Hindu that the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, raised questions over General Naravane’s account of how Government of India responded during the Chinese incursion into Indian territory in 2020, which was published in a magazine, and about Jeffrey Epstein files linking Mr. Modi.

“Why can’t we debate it? The magazine has only published what was there in General Naravane’s unpublished book. And Epstein is a child sex offender. Why can’t Mr. Modi clarify these issues in the Parliament? What does Epstein mean by Mr. Modi dancing in Israel (as claimed in Epstein’s emails)? Shouldn’t issues relating to national security be answered in the parliament?” she asked.

According to her, Mr. Gandhi was prevented from raising these issues. She alleged that the Speaker (Om Birla) at the time allowed a BJP MP to slander Indira Gandhi based on some magazine. “So, we gheraoed him,” she said.
