Prime land meant for hostel cleared of encroachment in Mysuru

The Mysuru taluk administration has cleared an encroachment on a prime government land earmarked for the construction of a post-matric students’ hostel in Mysuru.

The land, reclaimed on February 6, measures 0.38 acres (38 guntas) in Survey No. 87 of Kasaba hobli on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road in front of JSS College. The plot had been officially reserved for the Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department under an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner in 2010. However, the land was being illegally used for scooter parking. The reclaimed land is estimated to be worth crores of rupees.

Following a formal complaint from the District Officer of the Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Department, the district administration ordered immediate removal of the encroachment. Acting on the diktat, Mysuru tahsildar Mahesh Kumar led a joint operation on February 6 to clear the site and take it back into government possession.

Officials from the City Survey Department, the Backward Classes Welfare Department, and the police were present during the operation to ensure smooth execution. Authorities said the land will now be fenced for the proposed construction of the students’ hostel.

Daily commuters travelling between Mysuru, Nanjangud, and Chamarajanagar had been parking their vehicles on the plot from morning till evening, paying a nominal fee.
