Chartered accountant Prasanna Kumar D. has been elected as the new president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the term 2026-27. He succeeds Charanjot Singh Nanda. The ICAI also announced Mangesh Pandurang Kinare as the new vice-president. As the 74th president of ICAI, Mr. Prasanna will serve as chairman of all the standing committees including executive, finance, disciplinary, and examination; ex-officio member of all the non-standing committees; and editor-in-chief of The Chartered Accountant journal. He will also chair ICAI’s research and development wings Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF) and XBRL India and the three welfare funds: CABF, CASBF and the S. Vaidyanath Aiyar Memorial Fund. He will also serve as director on the boards of the Institute of Social Auditors of India (ISAI), ICAI Registered Valuers Organisation (ICAI RVO), The Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI) and ICAI International ADR Centre. Mr. Prasanna Kumar has been a chartered accountant since 1984 and a fellow member of ICAI. His leadership journey began with student-centric initiatives in the Southern India Chartered Accountants Students Association (SICASA). He also served on the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) from 2007 to 2016, including as chairman in 2013–14, during which time he enhanced regional outreach, professional development initiatives and member participation. He was also the former chairman of the Visakhapatnam Branch of ICAI in 2001–02.
