Following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, removal of wall graffiti and banners belonging to political parties has intensified across Thoothukudi district.

As directed by the Election Commission, posters, banners and other modes of advertisements displayed by the political parties on government premises and buildings must be removed in 24 hours. Those placed in public places such as buildings, bus stands and railway stations must be removed within 48 hours, while those on private premises and buildings must be removed within 72 hours.

Hence, images of the Chief Minister and other political leaders and banners related to government schemes displayed in government offices, including the Collectorate, were removed.

The Corporation, municipalities and town panchayats have also intensified the work of erasing political advertisements on government premises, buildings and public and private walls.
