Stalin monitoring refresher training in pistol-handling for police officers at the Armed Reserve ground in Mayiladuthurai. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement A refresher training programme on pistol handling was conducted for police officers of Mayiladuthurai district at the Armed Reserve (AR) ground here on Saturday. Superintendent of Police G. Stalin had taken the initiative to reinforce firearm safety and enhancing operational readiness in line with contemporary law-and-order challenges. Deputy Superintendents of Police, Inspectors, and sub-inspectors serving in the district participated in the programme. Officials said that while all the participants had undergone formal training in firearm handling, the refresher course was intended to revisit core techniques and sharpen skills for emergency situation. The training focused on preventing accidental discharges and misfires at police stations, and on ensuring safe, efficient, and swift handling of weapons during critical operations. Experts provided guidance on responding to situations such as Molotov cocktail attacks, riots, caste-related clashes, and encounters with armed offenders, with an emphasis on maintaining public order. Firearms expert Suresh conducted both classroom sessions and hands-on practical training. The modules covered dismantling and assembling pistols, precision targeting, and maintaining confidence and control during emergencies. Senior officers highlighted the importance of regular refresher programmes to ensure security and effective policing. Mr. Stalin, who participated in the session, shared his operational experience with the officers and offered key inputs on handling high-risk offenders, managing firearms in extraordinary circumstances, and maintaining discipline and restraint during sensitive law-and-order situations.
