Cordon and search operations were conducted at various parts in Anantapur district early on Sunday as part of the anti-drug initiative ‘Operation Vajra Prahar’.

Superintendent of Police (SP) P. Jagadeesh said the operation was conducted to prevent the sale and distribution of drugs, especially ganja and other intoxicating substances across the district. The searches were carried out in all police sub-divisions including Anantapur Urban, Anantapur Rural, Guntakal, Tadipatri, and Kalyandurg.

Police conducted inspections in identified hotspots, including rental houses, student hostels and residences, lodges, abandoned buildings, bus stands, railway stations and other suspicious locations. During the searches 45 two-wheelers without proper documents and three autorickshaws were seized, and 36 rowdy sheeters were counselled.

Mr. Jagadeesh said that police officials also educated the public about the health risks of drug consumption, social and legal consequences of drug abuse, its negative impact on youth and families, and requested citizens to report any information related to ganja or other drugs to the A.P. EAGLE toll-free number 1972. Police assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.

Police officers, staff, and local citizens also took an Operation Vajra Prahar pledge to fight against drugs and work toward building a drug-free society. Mr. Jagadeesh said similar operations will continue regularly under Operation Vajra Prahar to eliminate drug use, trafficking, and related crimes across the district.
