The Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) and the police on Saturday (March 7, 2026) conducted cordon-and-search named “Operation Vajra Prahar” at around 100 places in the State.

The police seized a countrymade pistol and five rounds of bullets, nine kgs ganja in Rameswaram Special train at Gudur, 100 grams Cannabis in Bapatla and Chittoor districts, and 10 kgs contraband in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, said EAGLE head and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ake Ravi Krishna.

Following the directions of DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, the raids, aimed at combating drug menace and to check crimes, were conducted across the State in which Superintendents of Police, ASPs, DSPs and other officers participated.

“About 5,000 police participated in “Operation Vajra Prahar” in the State. We are taking measures to step up vigil on drug peddlers and consumers,” Mr. Ravi Krishna told The Hindu.

“We searched the houses of suspects, including those involved in NDPS Act cases, and seized liquor stored illegally, ID liquor, and jaggery wash during the raids,” Mr. Ravi Krishna added.

Meanwhile, police revealed that the person, who had opened fire on EAGLE and police teams in Vijayawada, was identified as Murali Patil of Warangal in Telangana State. “The accused was involved in a few NDPS Act cases earlier. We are probing the case,” said NTR Commissionerate DCP Krishnakanth Patel.
