With the sale of kites gradually picking up pace ahead of the Sankranti festival season, the Kumram Bheem Asifabad police have stepped up vigil to check the sale of the banned Chinese manja (glass-coated thread) in the district.

As many as three cases were registered during surprise checks in the last week- two in Asifabad police station and one in Kagaznagar police station, against those selling Chinese manja, the police said.

The special drive resulted in seizure of 104 ‘Chinese manja’ reels, six packets of manja, 13 charkas (wooden spindles) and Rs 40,000 cash.

The police have urged people to report sale of Chinese manja to help curb the use of the banned string in kite flying, which endangers human lives.
