The Egmore police have filed a case against the office-bearers of the Secondary Grade Senior Teachers Association (SSTA) for spreading false information and defaming the police personnel on Tuesday. A senior police official said SSTA secretary J. Robert and other office-bearers have been conducting unauthorised demonstrations in various places in the city for several days, demanding a pay hike. As a preventive measure, police officials of Egmore station had got information that members of SSTA had assembled near Egmore Railway Station to protest. When the police team reached the railway station, all the teachers had left except Gunasekaran. The police team advised the office bearer to leave the place and go back to his hometown in Villupuram. However, a leaked phone conversation between Robert and Gunasekaran had alleged that the police team had threatened Gunasekaran to file a ganja case against him. The leaked conversation had gone viral on the social media. Based on the leaked audio, the Egmore police registered a case against the SSTA office-bearers including Robert and Gunasekaran, for spreading false information about police officials.
