The announcement of the Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) induction into the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) alliance was received with much fanfare among the PMK cadre in Dharmapuri on Wednesday (January 7, 2026). The cadre burst crackers near Dharmapuri bus stand and distributed sweets celebrating the announcement jointly made by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K, Palaniswami and the PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss, in Chennai. The cadres, led by the party’s former MP Dr. Senthil, gathered to celebrate the “victory alliance”. Speaking to the media, Mr. Senthil said, this was not merely the day of announcing the alliance, but foretelling the result of the 2026 elections. According to him, “the whole State was celebrating the announcement” and that if the PMK was instrumental in altering the outcome of the 2006 elections, so will it be for the upcoming elections, he added. He also predicted that all five Assembly Constituencies of Dharmapuri will return AIADMK-PMK alliance candidates to the State assembly after the elections. Dharmapuri was the only district that returned the AIADMK-PMK alliance candidates in all five constituencies of the district, resisting the DMK, which swept the 2021 elections. Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency polls in 2025 was also close call with PMK’s runner up candidate Dr. Sowmiya Anbumani tailing closely behind the winning DMK, MP R. Mani.
