Areas falling under Teynampet and Adyar zones will not receive piped water supply for 24 hours from January 8 to facilitate works by Chennai Metro Rail Limited.

A press release from Chennai Metrowater said the operation of MRC Nagar water distribution station will be suspended as CMRL would carry out interlinking works of drinking water pipeline on Ramakrishna Math Salai, Mandavelipakkam between 10 a.m. on January 8 and 10 a.m. on January 9. Areas, including parts of Triplicane, Royapettah, R.A.Puram, Mylapore and Nandanam, will not receive piped water supply.

Residents have been requested to store water in advance or book water tankers online for immediate needs. However, the water agency would continue street supply.

Deputy CM inaugurates SCADA-based automated reservoir management system

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated facilities including, integrated reservoir management centre, aimed at automating reservoirs operations using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, in the city on Tuesday.

Spread over 11,708 sq.ft., the centre would enable remote operations of shutters of three major drinking water reservoirs in Chembarambakkam, Red Hills and Poondi. The ₹32 crore project would feature real-time data analysis collated from different stakeholders for gate operations and enhance flood response and transparency.

With the response time reducing to 30 minutes compared to a minimum of four hours previously, the system would facilitate flood prevention through early warning systems and ensure optimum storage. Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan and senior officials of the Water Resources Department were present.
