Launched in November, the Pink patrol vehicles were aimed at strengthening the safety of women and children and to contain crimes against them. Hitherto, the vehicles were being drive by male police personnel for want of qualified women drivers. Select women constables were trained on driving the SUVs since then. After their completion of training on driving, the Commissioner of Police, J. Loganathan, handed over driving license to them. The vehicles are being used to patrol crowded places like bus stands, bus stops, women’s colleges and schools to prevent crime against women.
