Congress leader Pawan Khera. | Photo Credit: PTI The Congress party leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday (April 9, 2026) knocked the doors of the Telangana High Court seeking protection from arrest by the Assam police in a case registered by them over his remarks on the passport status of the Assam Chief Minister Hemanth Biswa Sarma. The criminal petition filed by Mr. Khera is likely to come up for hearing before the bench of Justice K. Sujana of the HC in a day or two. The 58-year-old politician allegedly made statements accusing the Assam Chief Minister’s wife had three passports. The Assam police registered a case against him based on a complaint that the remarks made by him were defamatory in nature.
