Sources said that government is mulling reconvening Parliament on April 16 to debate amendments to the Constitution (One Hundred and Sixth Amendment) Act, popularly known as the Women’s Reservation Act 2023, with an aim to speed up its implementation. The government has proposed that the delimitation, the essential step towards implementing the Women’s Reservation Act 2023, will be based on the 2011 Census instead of waiting for the ongoing enumeration to conclude. Parliament Budget Session: Follow updates on April 1, 2026 According to sources, the Lok Sabha Secretariat was asked to look at precedents when a session of Parliament was extended beyond its schedule to accommodate additional legislative business. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also conveyed to its allies the possible dates for this debate, the sources said. The Budget session, as per the sources, will not be adjourned sine die on April 2. Instead, the Chair in both Houses will announce a recess, extending the session, to reconvene on April 16. Barring the Congress and the Left parties, Home Minister Amit Shah and his ministerial colleagues have met other political parties. The Congress has been insisting on calling an all-party meeting for a wider pre-legislative consultation before bringing the required amendments to the floor of Parliament.
