The team of Sudha Kongara’s recent film Parasakthi on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) celebrated Pongal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event hosted by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan in New Delhi.

Actors Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan and music composer G.V. Prakash Kumar, who are part of the film that themed around the anti-Hindi agitations in Madras in the mid-1960s, attended the event. G.V. Prakash also rendered an excerpt from Thiruvasakam, a Tamil Shaivite devotional text composed by saint Manikkavasagar.

After the event, Mr. Modi greeted them. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Kumar said the Prime Minister enjoyed the rendering and congratulated him. Mr. Sivakarthikeyan said he was happy to celebrate Pongal in New Delhi along with Mr. Modi.

The participation of the film’s crew, with Parasakthi being billed as the DMK’s film for the election season, in an event attended by Mr. Modi drew criticism from a section of Congress leaders. Taking a dig, Congress Lok Sabha member from Virudhunagar, B. Manickam Tagore, in a post on X, said, “The Parasakthi team participated in the Pongal of the Sanghi team. But Jana Nayagan was blocked.”

Mr. Tagore was among the Congress leaders who have been critical of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for not granting the censor clearance for actor-politician Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, which is facing a delay in release.
