A committee has been appointed to conduct a detailed study on the issues faced by specialist teachers, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, the Minister said posts of specialist teachers are still created according to the provisions that have existed since the Kerala Education Rules came into effect. This should be re-examined. Based on the findings of the committee, a decision would be taken on amending the rules. The Minister said timely amendment in norms for appointing physical education teachers in schools was necessary for creating a culture of physical activity. Though Kerala topped school sports meets at the national level, a majority of the schools lacked physical education teachers required to groom young students.
