The Stray Dog Victim Compensation Recommendation Committee (SDVCRC) has proposed a compensation of ₹5.04 lakh in 25 cases of stray dog attack in the district.

The committee made the recommendation in 25 of the 38 dog bite complaints it examined at its fifth sitting at Manjeri on Tuesday (February 17). The committee comprises the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary as chairperson, District Medical Officer, Local Self-Government District Joint Director, and District Animal Husbandry Officer.

Senior Division Civil Judge Shabir Ibrahim M., who is the DLSA secretary, District Medical Officer T.K. Jayanthy, Local Self-Government District Joint Director V.K. Murali, and District Animal Husbandry Officer D. Zacharia took part in the sitting held at DLSA hall, Manjeri.

SDVCRC is the panel that decides the amount of compensation to be given to victims of stray dog bites. DLSA secretary Shabir Ibrahim M. said here that people could reach out with complaints to the DLSA or the Taluk Legal Services Committee in cases of stray dog attacks.

The DLSA will consider 283 complaints that were pending before the Justice Siri Jagan Committee. The DLSA can be contacted at 91881-27501.
