The Chennai police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old painter for making a hoax bomb threat call to the residence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, triggering a high-level security alert. The police said an unidentified caller contacted the police control room in the early hours of Thursday, claiming that a bomb would be planted at the Chief Minister’s house, and abruptly disconnected the call. Following the threat, security was tightened and police personnel along with bomb disposal squads conducted a thorough search of the premises, which later proved negative. Based on technical analysis, the Teynampet police traced the call to Nishar Ahmed, 33, a painter from Thiruvidaimarudur near Thanjavur. He was arrested and brought to Chennai for questioning.
