The Government General Hospital (GGH) in Paderu has successfully performed a complex thyroid cancer surgery on a 24-year-old woman, in Alluri Sitharama Raju district.

According to the GGH officials, the woman, a resident of Lingaputtu village, who had swelling in her neck approached the Paderu Hospital for treatment. After conducting medical tests, doctors diagnosed her with having Papillary Carcinoma of the thyroid. Further tests revealed that the cancer had already spread to the lymph nodes on the left side of her neck.

Considering the seriousness of her condition, the medical team decided to perform surgery immediately. The doctors carried out a procedure involving ‘Total Thyroidectomy’ along with ‘Modified Radical Neck Dissection’. During the surgery, the doctors successfully removed the thyroid gland as well as the cancer-affected lymph nodes.

The doctors stated that such complicated surgeries are usually performed only in super-specialty hospitals in major cities. The doctors said: “The surgery at the Paderu Government Hospital is a proud moment for the medical team as it highlights the improving healthcare facilities in the tribal region,” and added that the patient is currently recovering well and remains under observation.
