The assessment is part of the State’s ‘Amma Ku Akshara Mala’ initiative, launched in June last year to improve functional literacy among rural SHG women. Overall, 7.01 lakh learners, mostly middle aged and elderly SHG members, enrolled for the programme. Anasuya, the initiative relies entirely on community volunteers with no financial incentives involved. A SERP baseline survey had earlier found that 46% of Telangana’s 64 lakh SHG members were non-literate. Learners underwent a 16-week training module, focusing on basic reading and writing skills. Those who clear FLNAT will be eligible to appear for the SSC examination through distance mode, with results expected in April-May.
