Rao In Bihar, as many as 776 people have fallen victim to stray dog bites , the latest economic survey report, 2025-26 released on February 2, showed. According to the report, over 2.83 lakh cases of dog bites were reported across the State in 2024-25, around 38,900 more than the previous year. According to the report released by the Bihar government on February 2,2026 during the ongoing Budget Session of the State Assembly, Patna has the most number of dog bite cases followed by Nalanda, Bhojpur, East and West Champaran, Jehanabad, Gaya, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Purnia. . The report said number of dog bite cases in the year 2023-24 was 2,44,367. With 29,280 cases, Patna had the highest number of dog bite cases in the year 2025-26 followed by East Champaran (24,452), Nalanda (19,637), West Champaran (17,820), Jehanabad (12,900), Bhojpur (10,496), Gaya (10,794), Purnia (10, 373), Vaishali (10,155). Aurangabad district had the lowest number with only 467 cases of dog bites in the year 2025-26 followed by Arwal (1,207), Khagaria (1,565), Lakhisarai (1,696), Supaul (1,878) Rohtas (1,967), Banka (2,782), Buxar (2,8 95). Similarly, the survey report has noted that with 31,025 number of cases during the year 2025-26, Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) or, Influenza-like Illness (ILI) as the second most prevalent ailment followed by diseases like Malaria (29198), Enteric Fever (Typhoid) (23,976), Bacillary Dysentery (19,929), Acute Diarrhoeal Disease (including acute gastroenteritis) (18128) and Viral Hepatitis (1208). A Patna based animal activist Arpita Bose , said stray dogs or cats only bite out of fear or whenever they are attacked or provoked unnecessarily. The number of dog bite cases in this year is huge, she said. Veterinary doctor Amresh Kumar of Kankerbagh locality said he treats injured stray dogs and cates out of passion and kindness.
