Over ₹5 lakh penal amount was collected during overnight route checks near Gandi Maisamma on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Balanagar X Road and surrounding areas by the Vigilance and Enforcement Department on the intervening night of January 6 and 7.

The checks were carried out by Hyderabad City-1 unit, along with officials from the Motor Vehicles Department, Mines Department and Commercial Taxes Department, between 11 p.m. on January 6 and 4 a.m. on January 7.

Violations

During the enforcement drive, 11 cases were registered under the Motor Vehicles Act for violations related to overloading, licences, permits and tax compliance. Vehicles involved in the violations were seized and fines amounting to ₹4.37 lakh were imposed. In addition, five cases were booked under the Mining Act for violations related to illegal sand transportation, with fines of approximately ₹63,705 levied.

Checks against PDS rice illegally stocking

Meanwhile, the Vigilance and Enforcement officials carried out multiple operations across Telangana. A large quantity of illegally stocked Public Distribution System rice was seized and several cases were registered during overnight route checks aimed at curbing revenue leakage and misuse of public resources.

The Karimnagar unit conducted a surprise raid during the intervening night of January 6 and 7 on a closed rice mill named Lakshmi Narasimha Modern Rice Mill near Chityal village in Nirmal mandal. During the raid, officials seized 160 quintals of illegally stored PDS rice, valued at approximately ₹4.80 lakh. The seized stock was handed over to the Nirmal district Civil Supplies officials to register cases and take further action.
