Salem District Collector R. Brindha Devi on Tuesday (February 17, 2026) said that development works worth ₹189.02 crore have been carried out at Attur Panchayat Union, in the last five years. On Tuesday, the Collector carried out inspections at various places in the Attur Panchayat Union, including the constructions of houses under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme at Kothampadi, an overhead water tank with a 30,000 litres capacity worth ₹19.71 lakh at Periyar Nagar, a bridge across the Sitheri stream in Salem-Ulundurpet Road at ₹2.62 crore, a panchayat office at Appammasamudhram at ₹31.40 lakh, and buildings for the panchayat union middle school at ₹34.75 lakh in Seeliyampatti Panchayat. Other works include strengthening of roads between Narasingapuram and Thennangudipalayam at ₹59 lakh. The Collector also inspected the food provided to school students. Addressing the media, the Collector said that in the past five years, in Attur Panchayat Union, development works under various schemes, including the Chief Minister’s Village Road Improvement Scheme, the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme, the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and the Iyothee Thass Pandithar Habitation Development Scheme, have taken place. Of the total 5,250 projects, 4,609 were completed and the remaining 645 are under way. Instructions were given to the contractors and officials concerned to complete the works in a stipulated time and open them for public use, the Collector added.
