Monickraj | Photo Credit: SPL Organs harvested from a 22-year brain-dead youth in a Coimbatore hospital has benefitted six recipients. After Monickraj (22), a farmer of Nilgiris district, was declared braindead, two days after admission at the Kovai Medical College Hospital, due to injuries sustained in an accident while irrigating fields on March 11, his family members came forward to donate the organs. Following the consent from the parents Ramakrishnan and Vijayakumari and sister Monisha, multi-organ transplant surgeons harvested lungs, liver, kidney and eyes from the body of the deceased in conformity with the regulations specified by the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu.
