The NDA alliance on Tuesday moved an adjournment motion in the Karnataka Legislative Council demanding that the State government immediately fill about 2.85 lakh vacant posts in various departments, corporations, boards and universities. Raising the issue, Leader of the Opposition Chalavadi Narayanaswamy said recruitment processes had remained stalled for several years, leaving thousands of unemployed graduates at risk of crossing the upper age limit for government jobs. He said vacancies exist across 43 key departments, including Revenue, Education, Health, and Police, affecting the functioning of the administrative machinery. With many posts lying vacant, existing staff are often forced to handle the workload meant for several employees, he said. Mr. Narayanaswamy pointed to staff shortage in the higher education sector, stating that universities across the State are facing a lack of both teaching and non-teaching personnel. Members of the NDA alliance said the vacancies were affecting delivery of public services and urged the government to launch a special recruitment drive. Chairman Basavaraj Horatti said the matter raised through the adjournment motion had been transferred under Rule 330 for further discussion.
