Officials participate in ‘Samathuva Pongal’ celebrations

Collector V. Saravanan on Tuesday presided over ‘Samathuva Pongal’ celebrations held on the premises of the Collector Office here.

On the occasion, a section of officials and employees prepared Pongal in a pot in a traditional method. Officials of various departments belonging to different faiths participated in the celebrations. Some foreigners, who were on a visit to Tiruchi, took part in the celebrations. The officials explained the importance of the festival associated with the Tamil people and the harvest.

A cultural programme was conducted on the occasion.

L. Madhubalan, Commissioner, Tiruchi Corporation, said samathuva pongal would be celebrated in the offices of all five zones on Wednesday. Sports meet would also be conducted on Vasudevan Street, Thiruvanaikoil, Ponnaiah Higher Secondary School, Irudhayapuram, Ward-III office near SIT college, St. John Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School and Uzhavar Sandhai. The residents and sports persons of the respective areas could participate in the festivals.
