The protesters said that during the last Assembly elections, the DMK had promised in its election manifesto that anganwadi and nutritious meal workers would be provided with time-scale pay and the vacant posts would be filled. However, these demands have not been fulfilled so far. Tamil Nadu Nutritious Meal Workers and Anaganwadi Pensioners Association has been staging various protests since February 3, including road blockades and sit-in protests at the district Collectorate premises. On Monday, the association members staged a protest near Chidambara Nagar bus stop.
