Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil addressing a gathering after laying foundation stone for a nursing college in Yadgir on Monday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has said that the State government intends to establish nursing colleges under functioning medical colleges. He was addressing a gathering after laying foundation stone for the construction of a nursing college coming up at a cost of ₹9.86 crore under Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board grants in Yadgir on Monday. Dr. Patil said that two nursing colleges at Jewargi and Sedam in Kalaburagi have already started and now, a similar college will come up here shortly. “In the next phase, nursing colleges will be built based on demand across the State,” he added. Students from poor families will get opportunities to pursue nursing courses once these colleges start functioning. Nursing graduates have ample job opportunities in India and also abroad, especially in Japan, Germany and Italy, where there is the highest demand for Indian nursing students, he said. He also said that the State government desires to establish language laboratories to teach languages of particular countries where nursing students want to do service. Therefore, students should adopt a service nature, gain language knowledge and good communication skills. The Minister gave details of future developments in the medical sector and said that the State government has started new medical colleges in Bagalkot and Ramanagara as per a decision taken by him in 2013. He said that a plan has been prepared to establish super-speciality hospitals, trauma care centres and cancer hospitals in every district in the next five years. “The ongoing projects to construct super-speciality hospitals in Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Belagavi, Koppal, Ballari, Hubballi, Shivamogga and Chikmagaluru districts are almost ready and, they will soon be dedicated for public service. In addition, such hospitals will possibly come up in Yadgir, Karwar and Gadag districts based on funds availability,” he said. MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur presided over the programme.
