Poornachandra Kumar National Sanskrit University (NSU) on Tuesday (February 17, 2026) announced to form ‘Yogi Vemana Yoga Parishat’ to promote the cause of Yoga among students. At the valedictory session of ‘Yoga Sangama 2026’, the All India Sanskrit Universities Prayogika Yoga Competitions, here on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor G.S.R. Krishnamurthy said that the new Parishat would not only celebrate the birth anniversary of renowned Telugu philosopher and poet Yogi Vemana on January 20, but also conduct national level Yoga competitions marking the occasion every year. Buoyed by the impressive response from as many as fourteen Sanskrit varsities from across India, Prof. Krishnamurthy announced to conduct the event every year. Dubbing Yoga as a stress buster for the students as well as the general public to beat the pressures of the modern world, the Vice-Chancellor lamented that the present generation was yet to tap the full potential of Yoga as a science and reap its benefits. Prof. Prahlad R. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies based at Nalbari (Assam) and Nandi Ghosh, professor of Darshana at Central Sanskrit University (Puri campus) took part as special guests for the event. The winner’s trophy ‘Yoga Vyjayanthi’ was bagged by the team from Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Ramtek, Nagpur (Maharashtra). Deans Rajanikant Shukla (Academic), V. Vishnu Bhattacharyulu (Darshana and Saankhya) and Satyanarayana Acharya (Sahitya and Samskruti) took part in the closing ceremony. Student teams from Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh participated in the competitions.
