The National Security Guard successfully conducted a three-day Hostage Rescue Operation in Jungle exercise in the city from February 2 to 5, according to a release issued by Greyhounds Group Commander Operations Sumit Garud on Friday.

The exercise was held at two locations, Kambalakonda Reserve Forest and P. M. Palem, and simulated real-life combat conditions. It involved the integration of multiple skills, operational strategies and tactics in line with the prevailing modus operandi of naxals, providing a realistic and intensive training environment.

Mr. Garud said the objective of the exercise was to anticipate potential threats and rehearse coordinated procedures to establish a robust security grid in the region. The drill saw the participation of Andhra Pradesh Police, Greyhounds and Octopus as first responders, with support from the CRPF, ITBP, SDRF, Forest, Fire, Medical and intelligence agencies.

The exercise highlighted inter-agency coordination and interoperability, enabling swift and effective response during emergency situations, he said.
