Now khata changes for farmlands in Karnataka can be done through mobiles

The Karnataka government on Tuesday launched an auto-mutation system that facilitates farmland owners to effect changes in khatas from their mobiles without visiting the revenue offices.

Though this method had been in force since 2024, it was confined to only instances where there was no need to issue notices. The new initiative would now allow changes in all instances to be made online to khatas.

Notice period

Launching the system, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said applications under this facility could be made through the Bhoomi portal. There will be a notice period of seven days for general cases, during which objections could be filed by anyone through this portal. The khata would be changed automatically on the eight day if no objections were filed.

However, the notice period would stretch for 15 days for cases that seek changes in khata owing to reasons other than registration. Even in these cases, the change would be automatically effected on the 16th day if there are no objections, he noted.

The Revenue Minister said the new system had been implemented successfully in Mandya district on a pilot basis for a month before the Statewide launch.

The Minister pointed out that people had to face a lot of inconvenience earlier during the process of effecting changes to khatas as they had to physically visit Revenue offices. The indifferent attitude of some officials and the role of middlemen too had complicated the process, he noted. However, the new system would make the process very easy and simple. This would also help Revenue inspectors as their workload would also reduce, he explained.

The Revenue Minister appealed to people to link their Aadhaar with the RTCs (Records of Rights, Tenancy and Crops) to strengthen their ownership rights by preventing the illegal transaction of their properties.

He explained that linking Aadhaar with RTCs would help landowners as they would get alert messages if there are any changes in the RTCs. The owners would also get alerts if any court order is mentioned in their RTCs or the name of any other person is added to the records. This would help prevent illegal transactions, he said.
