Nominations of 201 candidates for 10 constituencies in Coimbatore district were accepted after scrutiny on Tuesday.

A total of 450 candidates had filed their nominations from March 30 to April 6.

Constituency-wise (nominations filed and valid nominations): Mettupalayam – 48 and 24, Sulur – 32 and 17, Kavundampalayam – 33 and 17, Coimbatore North – 49 and 29, Thondamuthur – 77 and 22, Coimbatore South – 61 and 38, Singanallur – 44 and 29, Kinathukkadavu – 43 and 5, Pollachi – 34 and 14, and Valparai – 29 and 6.

The prominent candidates constitute former Minister S.P. Velumani of AIADMK in Thondamuthur, Vanathi Srinivasan of BJP in Coimbatore North, and V. Senthil Balaji of DMK in Coimbatore South.

To objections raised by AIADMK and Naam Tamizhar Katchi partymen regarding the nomination submitted by DMK candidate V. Senthil Balaji for Coimbatore South constituency, officials ruled out any procedural flaw.

In Tiruppur district, 134 out of 256 nominations submitted for eight Assembly constituencies were accepted.

Constituency-wise accepted and rejected nominations: Dharapuram (SC) – 10 and 6, Kangayam – 17 and 4, Avanashi (SC) – 14 and 3, Tiruppur North – 17 and 11, Tiruppur South – 28 and 3, Palladam – 19 and 9, Udumalpet – 16 and 4, and Madathukulam – 13 and 4.

Prominent candidates in Tiruppur district constitute sitting MLA and Minister M.P. Saminathan of DMK in Kangayam constituency, and Union Minister L. Murugan of BJP in Avanashi constituency.
