Nominations of the candidates fielded by all major political parties were accepted during the scrutiny on Tuesday.

As 188 nominations were filed for Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri, and Radhapuram Assembly constituencies, the scrutiny was held on Tuesday by the Returning Officers concerned in the presence of either the candidates or their representatives.

In Tirunelveli, nominations of 21 candidates were accepted and 4 rejected. Of the 26 nominations filed for Palayamkottai constituency, 8 were rejected during scrutiny and hence 18 are in the fray as of now. Of the 38 nominations, 7 were rejected to leave 31 candidates in the fray for Nanguneri segment.

In Radhapuram constituency, where Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker Appavu is contesting, the papers of four candidates were rejected and 25 nominations were accepted.

General Observers for these five constituencies Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod and Anubha Shrivatsava closely monitored the scrutiny of nominations and guided the Returning Officers in sorting out the objections raised by the candidates or their agents.

In Tenkasi district, 20 candidates are in Sankarankovil (Reserve), 18 in Vasudevanallur (Reserve), 22 in Kadayanallur, and 13 are in Alangulam constituencies after the scrutiny of nominations.

While 129 nominations were accepted for the six Assembly segments in Thoothukudi district, 59 were rejected during the scrutiny on Tuesday.

In Thoothukudi segment, 8 nominations were rejected and 25 nominations were accepted. After brief objections by the agents of DMK candidate P. Geetha Jeevan and AIADMK candidate S.T. Chellapandian against each other, both the nominations were accepted. In Tiruchendur, 18 nominations, including that of Minister Anita R. Radhakrishnan, were accepted after 17 were rejected.

A total of 22 candidates, including former minister S.P. Shanmuganathan and MLA Oorvasi S. Amirtharaj, are in the fray in Srivaikundam segment after six nominations were rejected.

Of the 31 nominations received for Kovilpatti constituency, eight were rejected to leave 23 in the fray and Ottapidaram has 21 nominations after seven were rejected. In Vilaaththikulam, 18 of the 28 nominations were accepted.

In Kanniyakumari Assembly constituency, 15 nominations were accepted and 23 candidates are in fray in Nagercoil Assembly constituency after six nominations were rejected during scrutiny.

In Padmanabhapuram, 11 candidates are in the fray as eight nominations were rejected. The Colachel constituency has 13 candidates in fray after 7 nominations were rejected on Tuesday.

In Vilavancode segment, 15 candidates are in fray after four nominations were rejected on Tuesday and Killiyoor, the 234thAssembly constituency of Tamil Nadu, has 13 candidates in the fray after the scrutiny.
