Even as a proposal has been submitted under the Kabini project to supply 13 MLD of water to Ramanahalli, Bogadi, Kadakola, and Srirampura Town Panchayat limits, Mysuru city is unlikely to face any drinking water crisis until June, considering the current storage levels in reservoirs. With normal rainfall expected, there is no cause for concern, according to data presented at a meeting here on March 2.

Nevertheless, Mysuru district in-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa has directed officials to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure that there is no shortage of drinking water in the district following the onset of summer.

Speaking at a review meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat Hall on March 2, he instructed officials to activate Task Force Committees at the district and taluk levels. Tahsildars were asked to prepare a list of villages that may face drinking water shortages.

The Minister also directed officials to review the status of borewells drilled in previous years as well as those currently functional, and to prepare a list of private borewells. In case of any drinking water crisis, the matter should be immediately brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat, he said.

Cautioning that communicable diseases tend to spread during summer, he instructed health officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to prevent outbreaks.

Tanveer Sait, Narasimharaja MLA, said officials must review the functioning of drinking water schemes being implemented under Jal Jeevan Mission and Multi-Village Schemes. He also asked them to hold meetings and prepare a report on measures to be taken in case of drought, along with the funds required.

Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, Zilla Panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, and other officials were present at the meeting.
