File photo of Mangaluru City Corporation. More than a year after the five-year term of the elected council of Mangaluru City Corporation council ended, there are no signs of the government holding election to the council. While inaugurating Mahakalipadpu railway underpass in the city this January, Urban Development and Town Planning Minister Byrathi Suresh went on record that the government will hold elections to Mangaluru and five other city corporations in the State by April 2026. With the government not announcing the draft lists of ward-wise reservations to hold the elections, political circles wonder whether the government is indeed interested to hold the polls.
