The authorities of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) have said that no final decision has been taken yet on the proposed cricket stadium project in association with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).

A Syndicate meeting held on December 19, 2025, had discussed the revised master plan for the project that envisaged setting up the cricket stadium and allied infrastructure on six acres on the main campus of the varsity at Kalady. Though there were reports that the Syndicate had given its nod for the project, the authorities are now saying that a final decision is still awaited.

Vice-Chancellor (V-C) K.K. Geethakumary said the Syndicate had not yet given its final approval for the project, as further discussions were required. She added that the proposal was to grant land use rights only to the cricketing body and not allot the land on lease. The KCA would set up a football ground and a sports hostel facility for students on the campus as part of the agreement, she added.

The authorities had earlier pointed out that the total cost of the project was expected to be around ₹55 crore. The agreement will be for a period of 33 years. According to the draft agreement, the KCA will develop/construct multi-sports facilities, including a football ground with an athletic track (400-metre synthetic track). It will construct and hand over a sports hostel to the varsity. The KCA will have to meet the cost and expenses incurred towards developing cricket facilities, which include a first-class cricket ground, turf pitches, an office room, players’ and official pavilions, sight screens, camera towers, and indoor and outdoor practice facilities.

A seven-member managing committee will be in control of the affairs of the cricket facilities and scheduled premises. It will include four members representing the varsity, nominated by the V-C and three members nominated by the KCA.
