Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. | Photo Credit: File photo Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru MP, has welcomed the release of ₹5 crore from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the construction of a planetarium in Mysuru, and described it as a commendable initiative aimed at promoting education and scientific temper among youth and students. In a press statement, Mr. Wadiyar said the Union Minister had laid the foundation stone for the Cosmology Education and Research Training Centre project in the city and that additional funds have now been sanctioned for the project. He said the Cosmos Planetarium project will significantly encourage curiosity, learning, research, and innovation among the youth. The project will also add a new dimension to Mysuru’s tourism profile and create fresh opportunities for local development. It will further strengthen the city’s legacy as a centre of knowledge, he added. “The planetarium is being constructed at the University of Mysore’s Chamundi Hill campus and will be the first inclined dome-shaped LED planetarium,” the MP said. Once completed, the project is expected to emerge as one of Mysuru’s major tourist and knowledge destinations, he noted. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the people of Mysuru, Mr. Wadiyar said the Union Finance Minister’s commitment to implement projects that inspire future generations and contribute to long-term development deserves appreciation.
