The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the construction of two-lane service roads along the Sira Bypass on NH-48 (Old NH-4) in Karnataka, in a move aimed at enhancing road safety and easing local traffic movement, according to officials.

The project, estimated to cost ₹22.10 crore, will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode. A senior NHAI official said, “It involves building service roads for a total balance length of 3.23 km on either side of the bypass, along with necessary cross drainage structures.”

The proposed stretches fall between Km 117+625 to Km 119+900 and Km 120+650 to Km 121+600 on the Tumkur–Chitradurga section of NH-48, which spans from Km 75+000 to Km 189+000.

According to NHAI, the initiative is designed to cater to the needs of local commuters while supporting the growing urbanisation of Sira town. “The addition of service roads is expected to segregate local and highway traffic, thereby reducing conflict points with fast-moving vehicles on the main carriageway,” the official said.

The project will be awarded through a competitive bidding process. “This initiative reflects NHAI’s continued commitment to strengthening road safety,” said Vilas Brahmankar, Regional Officer, NHAI.
