THOOTHUKUDI:

New Superintendent of Police of Thoothukudi district C. Madhan assumed office here on Monday.

Mr. Madhan, a 2022 batch IPS officer, earlier served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli West.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Madhan said the primary focus would be given to core police functions such as preventing crimes and detecting offenders. The role of district police was crucial during the Assembly elections and both fundamental policing responsibilities and election duties would be balanced equally.

“Thoothukudi police force will function in a neutral manner,” he added.

Continuous measures would be taken to prevent crimes and control anti-social elements in the district. Several departments were already working to prevent sea-borne crimes. In coordination with them, intensive patrolling would be carried out and strict action taken against key offenders involved in such crimes.

“We are continuously monitoring caste-based clashes in the district through layered teams and many preventive measures are being taken. This will further continue and new initiatives will added to prevent caste based violences,” he said.
