Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone V. Balakrishnan who took charge on Friday. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement V. Balakrishnan assumed charge as the Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, here on Friday. He replaced IG Joshi Nirmal Kumar who has been transferred and posted to Chennai. Prior to assuming charge as the head of the Central Zone, Mr. Balakrishnan was IG Administration, Chennai. This is Mr. Balakrishnan’s second stint as IG of Central Zone as he had served in this post from June 2021 to June 2022. A 2003 batch IPS officer, Mr. Balakrishnan, a post graduate in Agriculture and a PG in Human Rights from the University College of London, had earlier served as Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tiruchi Range. He had served in Madurai, Tiruvannamalai, TIruppur, and Theni districts as Superintendent of Police.
